Brendan Grealy
has created a uniquely South African character in the guise of
Corrie Campbell Postmaster of the Nuga Moya Post Office. His
fictional persona is instantly recognisable as a comic South
African stereotype, whose innocent lack of malice allows him to
voice profound truths about human nature with unwitting humour
and engaging honesty.
His highly entertaining presentation – "Beyond the Box" - is a
refreshingly different look at attitudes to change, the habit of
classifying people by pigeon-holing them, the delicate art of
listening, and the challenge of working constructively and
harmoniously in a multi—cultural environment.
Corrie Campbell’s appeal as the common man is limitless. In
laughing partly with him and partly at his recognizable foibles,
there is scope for a real connection with audiences, as we
struggle with the inevitable and sometimes radical changes
necessitated by transformation.
